We're taking the day to celebrate our partnership with the DCPL + the DC Public Library Foundation (we're here right now! you should join us next month), and we're T H R I L L E D to share some of the reasons why #ourDCPL is YOUR DCPL, and why we dig it so much.
There are 26 branches of the DCPL, and in 2015 alone they provided job training to over 10,000 library patrons, supplied 11,000 summer meals to kids who rely on school breakfast + lunch, engaged 167,000 DC residents in early literacy training + story times, and so much more. The Library is a necessary and vital force in the lives of DC residents, across every single ward and in all four quadrants. re: CREATIVE COMMUNITY, the DCPL is an incredible resource. From workshops and free concerts, the Fab Lab to the Punk + Go-go archives, there's something for everyone to take part in or pull inspiration from, and we've loved partnering with them on our monthly residencies at MLK. See also: our #aCreativeDC x DCPL collaborative installation currently living in Lab 1270 at Union Market – we're proud to continue working with them in 2016, and if you haven't yet found a reason to get yourself to the DCPL, we're throwing encouragement your way to make it happen in the New Year
The DC Public Library Foundation is a non-profit organization that supports all the good things the DCPL does – support by following them @dcpl_literati (on both instagram and twitter), and if you're able to make a charitable donation during the #loveDCPLgive campaign, funds support all of the Library's services, programs, and events, in 2016 and beyond.
